To help remove old, aged skin and uncover newer, more youthful skin, our cosmetic surgeon may recommend a chemical peel in Lehi, Utah. This is an outpatient procedure, so you will not have to stay at Aspire Surgical overnight. Dr. Mark Ryser has received the specialized training through SkinCeuticals skincare professionals that is needed to perform chemical peels. Our cosmetic surgeon will perform a chemical peel by:
- Washing and cleaning your skin thoroughly.
- Applying chemical solutions—which may include glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid, or carbolic acid—to small areas.
- Creating a small, controlled wound that will blister and then peel off. New skin that is less-wrinkled and smoother will replace the old skin.
Some patients feel a slight burning or a stinging sensation during treatment. You can apply a cold compress to your skin to help ease any discomfort. If your discomfort persists, our cosmetic surgeon will provide additional advice.
After your chemical peel, your skin will be very sensitive to the sun. It is imperative that you wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is at least 30 SPF on a daily basis until Dr. Mark Ryser advises you otherwise. Limit your time in the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun is harshest. Our cosmetic surgeon recommends using the SkinCeuticals homecare regimen for best results. Depending on your individual case, Dr. Mark Ryser will provide any additional aftercare instructions.
