If you are suffering from any sort of jaw or facial pain, it may be linked to a TMJ disorder. Temporomandibular joint disorder, also known as a TMJ disorder, is an oral health ailment that arises within your jaw due to damage to the ball and socket joints in your jaw.

It is important to first understand what has caused your TMJ disorder. Underlying conditions such as arthritis, and bruxism, also known as teeth grinding, are known to cause TMJ disorders. In addition, unhealthy habits such as biting your nails, chewing gum, or routinely taking blunt trauma blows to the face can lead to TMJ damage. Furthermore, misalignments with your teeth and jaw, as well as any dislocations that are present, are also commonly associated with TMJ disorders.

Fortunately, TMJ disorders can be treated. Numerous medications and pain relievers can be used to help alleviate any pains associated with TMJ disorders. In addition, heat and ice packs can be used to help alleviate pain or lower inflammation. We also recommend eating softer foods and practicing oral health exercises to strengthen your jaw. Furthermore, night guards and bite plates can be used. If severe damage to your TMJs is present, oral surgery will be needed.
